Азат: То, что неслось в квартире, которую мы там снимали, это настоящий рок-н-ролл. Был концерт при участии многих казахстанских артистов. Лейбл задумывался как компания, функционирующая без бумажек и контрактов. Стать частью лейбла нам предложил местный рэпер-ветеран Кот Балу. На студии человек по 15-20 постоянно висели, в комнате на 15 квадратов. Но это недолго просуществовало.
Начали давать совместные концерты, где все исполняли по 2-3 трека. Какие-то артисты получали больше внимания — и все начали разбредаться в разные стороны. Ну и закрыли. Кто-то в Q-Pop ушёл, кто-то ещё куда. Азат: Это казахстанский поп, определение по аналогии с K-Pop. У нас это сейчас очень развито. Звезды этого направления — группа Ninety One, мне вкатывают, они очень музыкальные, стилевые, делают современный звук на казахском языке. Вот сама подача, внешний вид таких артистов мне не нравится — косметика у парней, уложенные волосы, накрашенные ногти, серьги.
Это классический бойзбенд. Стадионы собирают, на них школами ходят. Здесь бывает, что людям по 30 лет, а они сигареты до сих пор не могут перед родителями курить, хотя у них свои дети уже. Никогда не увидишь, чтобы сын с отцом сидел пиво пил. Рэп старшее поколение вообще не приветствует. Думают, это какое-то ребячество. Баха: Для них это даже не музыка. Вот свадебные песни — это топчик.
Мади: У нас артисты, которые делают песни для свадеб, за три минуты могут миллион заработать. Приехал — спел — взял лям — уехал. У нас очень любят пышные свадьбы. Поэтому звезды эстрады делают именно такие танцевальные треки — чтобы на свадьбах под них танцевали. Азат: У нас это прям отдельный жанр — свадебная танцевальная музыка. Эстрадные артисты больше на свадьбах зарабатывают, чем на стриминге. У нас не бывает свадеб на 50 человек. Даже самая бедная семья сделает на 200.
Даже в карантин! Все, чтобы один день почувствовать себя кем-то важным. Есть пары, которые женились, а потом через 2-3 дня развелись. Зато за свадьбу десять миллионов выложить — это пожалуйста. Баха: Ревность точит, никто не хочет делать свадьбу хуже, чем у соседа. Неоговоренное соревнование. Казах без понтов — беспонтовый казах. Азат: Молодым на свадьбе бывает тяжело, приходится стоять часов по 5-6.
У нас тосты могут говорить по 40 минут. А старших надо слушать стоя. Собираются родственники, которых ты не видел лет 5-10 из других городов, деревень. Друзья друзей, сослуживцы отца. Ты даже не знаешь, кто это, но тебя все знают. Баха: Из свадебных обрядов у нас еще есть беташар. Заходит невеста в фате, и перед тем, как показать всем лицо, она должна поклониться каждому, а они дают деньги. Тамада при этом фристайлит, вызывает братьев, поддерживает градус веселья своими репликами.
Если умеешь фристайлить, ты на свадьбах зарабатываешь. Казахи же давно увлекаются фристайлом. Есть такой ритуал у нас — айтыс. Два акына сидят и баттлятся, только в более интеллектуальной манере, чем та, к которой мы привыкли. Могут подкалывать друг друга, там не только речитатив, но и народное пение используется. Мы долго решались, а потом обсудили с домашними, чтоб не волновались, и 6 декабря поехали. До этого не были тут ни разу — и офигели от того, какая Москва огромная. Едем на тачке — а город не заканчивается.
Астана бы уже три-четыре раза закончилась. Баха: Москва подарила нашей музыке другой вайб. Мы это поняли, когда записали тут первый же трек. Здесь все на суете, стиль музыки более свежий получается. В Казахстане все более ленивые, медленные. Людям в Москве нужно быстро покачаться и дальше двигать по делам. Первое время мы жили в гостинице, через знакомых хороший вариант подвернулся. Потом случился карантин, а гостиница — это же общественное место, ее на время локдауна закрыли.

His loose and colourful arrangements could soundtrack anything: a house party in Hong Kong, a road trip through the Australian outback, a post-midnight walk alone across moonlit European streets. They perform music from their recent album A Humdrum Star as well as new music and hits from their powerful back catalogue. In 1968, aged 22 he led an ensemble in a Johannesburg studio that included a young, fiery Winston Mankunku and recorded an album, Spring, that has become an integral part of the rich legacy of jazz records in South Africa. In 2018 he released a brand new recording project, Essence of Spring. Looking to commemorate his 66th year, Scofield penned twelve original compositions and formed a swinging new group to record and tour the music. Rising star Gerald Clayton was an obvious choice on piano, an instrument central to the new tunes.
The connection between Scofield and drummer Bill Stewart strengthens as the decades pass. It was Stewart who introduced bassist Vicente Archer to the project. Scofield is thrilled with the group and in addition to the musical combustion, especially enjoys the inter-generational quality — sixties, fifties, forties and thirties represented. It is a dynamic regional voice with influences sewn together seamlessly to create a showcase for all artistry in the region — proof that creativity knows no boundaries. Musician Bokani Dyer is a co-director of the new project that features Mbuso Khoza — a haunting voice and social commentator from KZN; the ever-inventive singer and trombonist Siya Makuzeni from the Eastern Cape; the graceful singer, dancer and mbira player Hope Masike from Zimbabwe; and dynamic singer and dancer Xixel Langa from Mozambique.
Together with a stellar band of top instrumentalists, Mahube gives voice to contemporary music born on African soil. Goldberg grew up in Observatory, Cape Town, and nurtured musical roots that span jazz, classical music, bebop and mbaqanga. He regularly recorded and performed with artists such as Miriam Makeba and Harry Belafonte. He also worked with Jonathan Butler and exiled singer Letta Mbulu.
