The tone of the guitars is at the front of the mix and it feels like you are listening to a band playing together, rather than four individuals tracking their parts on different days. When Tuck is letting the screams fly, he sounds invigorated and passionate, but his melodic singing really does seem to suffer from some kind of charisma bypass. Knives continues on the up-tempo theme, with a great crunching chorus riff that will get your head banging, and features a great beatdown with a shrieking lead line in the guitar. Bastards is meant to be a big rabble rousing protest song with its gang vocals and stomping chorus, but just falls flat as it simply does not convey any emotion other than mild annoyance.

Having established their sound, Bullet For my Valentine were signed to Visible Noise after their second gig, impressing with their refreshing take on the modern metal scene. The band went into the studio, recording their self-titled EP in November 2004, a release that established their name in the rock and metal sphere, finding critical acclaim. Their debut album, "The Poison," appeared the following year, before the band then signed to American label, Trustkill Records, who distributed their album in the US. Rounding out a successful year, the band were awarded with Kerrang! Their debut album was released in America in 2006, which gained them a support slot for Rob Zombie on a nationwide tour. After embarking on further tours, the band returned to the studio for their third effort, with "Fever" being released in 2010.

Мэтт даже отрастил длинные волосы по такому случаю. Клип на песню Knives В зарубежной специализированной прессе пластинку часто ругают из-за одного весьма спорного решения — сведения. На одноимённике ударные задраны вверх, вокал пережат, а гитары утоплены глубоко в миксе, из-за чего работа звучит холодно и шершаво. Я вижу в этом не недостаток, а скорее стилистическое решение — именно так и звучал бы среднестатистический полу-гаражный ню-метал-альбом начала двухтысячных.
Возможно, так бы звучала дебютная большая пластинка Jeff Killed John, если бы парни тогда не распались и подписали контракт с крупным лейблом вроде Roadrunner Records. Да и подобная стилизация звука в современной тяжёлой музыке уже использовалась. Нечто похожее было у My Ticket Home на альбоме Strangers Only, когда коллектив отказался от мейнстримного пост-хардкора и записал чистый относительно ню-метал-релиз. Из более свежих примеров — прошлогодний экспериментальный альбом Underneath от Code Orange. Там звук стилизовали под ранние работы Slipknot и Korn, просто сделано это было гораздо тоньше, чем у Bullet for My Valentine.

The following year saw the group head back into the studio with producer Colin Richardson to begin work on their next long-player. The resulting Venom arrived in summer 2015. In 2018, the group issued their sixth long-player, The Spinefarm Records-issued Gravity, which charted respectably and was the first studio outing for new drummer Jason Bowld.

Rainbow Veins comes across as a song that clearly is rooted in the struggles of mental health, but is riddled with a clunky lyrical narrative that depersonalises the issue at hand. A positive to end on is that the record does not end with a soppy ballad, but with a final muted roar in the form of Death By A Thousand Cuts — a track which would benefit from being placed much earlier in the running order.
